【Summary】

Established in June 2018, the Circular Economy & Wide-Area Multi-Value Circulation Study Group is now in its fifth year. During this period, the international standardization of the Circular Economy has been discussed at ISO and various action plans have been announced mainly in Europe, and the international trend toward the Circular Economy is getting louder and louder. In Japan, the new plastic law will be enforced this spring, and as efforts to promote a circular society gain momentum in the supply chain and in civic activities, there is a growing recognition that the circular economy is a new approach toward a sustainable society and economy, based on the achievements of the conventional “circular society promotion”. This is a time of growing awareness.

At this time, we would like to invite those who are promoting the circular economy in Japan to the Open Symposium 2020 and introduce their unique efforts and goals as a circular economy.

The Circular Economy is now considered an important element for the formation of a socially and economically sustainable society from the perspective of improving resource efficiency, and is expected to achieve carbon neutrality, ESG investment and taxonomy, and above all, the SDGs. The “Circular Economy” is a movement that is trying to advance in cooperation with various other movements as a means to achieve the SDGs. We expect a wide range of participants, from those who are new to the “circular economy” to those who are already making efforts to collaborate with others in practice.
